product details & reviews
'The Cross Eyed Rambler' is Paul heaton's 14th studio album, while being his debut solo effort. The former Beautiful South and Housemartins frontman finds a refreshing direction, allowing his witty and well-observed lyrics take centre stage, backed by the stripped back sound of a four-piece. Often a throw-back to The Housemartins, with the unmistakeable lyrical charm of The Beautiful South - a great listen. Singles include 'Mermaids And Slaves'. This deluxed edition includes two bonus tracks.
Jun 2008
The brand new album from the lyrical genius behind The Housemartins and the Beautiful South. Following the split of the Beautiful South in 2007 (due to "musical similarities"), Heaton set about recruiting a new band and writing a set of outstanding pop tunes. Harder, rockier and louder than the Beautiful South, the album nonetheless packed with the sweet melodies and exquiste turns of phrase that underpinned Heaton's career since 1983.
'The Cross Eyed Rambler', an album full of wry observations, and pithy, funny, rabble rousing, declactions about the state of the country, is the next step in the career of Paul Heaton and will see him established as one of the great British songwriters.

James Blunt

I understand your concern but feel that Corporal Blunt has a lot more explaining to do. I've released around about 14 studio albums [a similar number that Cpt Blunt and his illegal armed forces have invaded countrywise] and feel my use of 'colourful language' would not be necessary if it wasn't for the likes of Blunt. Rather than blame the person who uses the C or F word when someone stands on their toe, look at the toe-stamping, mind-numbing, empire worshipping Blunt, who invades, corrupts and blitzkreigs, our ears, Afghani hearts and Iraqi charts. I wish him well in hell. Heato' x

Good but

Great songwriter but can't understand why needed bad language on several tracks. Heaton has more class than that. Have young family and want to introduce my kids to quality but great tracks ruined by swearing. Perhaps he feels threatened by James Blunt.
