'These Streets (Festival Edition)' is a two CD package with new artwork and sleevenotes; CD1 features the full studio version of the album and CD2 features 8 tracks recorded in June at The Isle of Wight Festival.
Since its release in July of last year 'These Streets' has proved a mammoth success in the UK. Entering the top 10 at number at number 3, it went on to spend 6 weeks inside the top 10 and 3 months within the top 20, the album has rarely left the top 40 and is now fast approaching triple platinum sales.
Paolo’s staggering live performances have seen him receive high critical-acclaim; The Independent simply describe Paolo’s live act as “riveting”; Q have described Paolo as having “a remarkable voice”, whilst The Guardian has likened Paolo’s voice to “the marvellous rasping of a Mississippi bluesman.” As well as triumphant performances at this years Glastonbury, T In The Park and Isle Of Wight Festival, as a live performer Paolo has sold out three UK tours in the last year. Paolo’s most recent tour in April-May of this year saw him play two dates at Brixton Academy and an unprecedented 5 dates at Glasgow Academy. He has also been selected to play support with icons such as the Rolling Stones and Paul Weller, who were so impressed that both invited Paolo to perform duets live on stage (The Rolling Stones at The Isle Of Wight Festival and Paul Weller earlier this year in New York).
In his native Scotland, Paolo was awarded with the Nordoff Robbins Tartan Clef Best Newcomer Award in November 2006, the Young Scot award for best newcomer, and the Daily Record ‘Our Hero Award’ for entertainment. In February this year Paolo received a Brit Award nomination for Best Male Solo Artist and in June was awarded with the Nordoff Robbins -Silver Clef Best New Artist Award, which was presented to him by Paul Weller.
- The Word (2006/09, p.108) - "...Nutini hints at a future as a Celtic Jeff Buckley."
On his full-length studio debut, THESE STREETS, young Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini offers up a confident set of pop-savvy tunes in the vein of James Blunt and John Mayer. Helmed by esteemed producer Ken Nelson (Badly Drawn Boy, Coldplay), the album deftly mixes mid-tempo rock songs (the scrappy "Jenny Don't Be Hasty") with emotive ballads (the yearning "Last Request"; the regretful "Rewind"), revealing Nutini's raspy-voiced, easy-going charm. A highly successful record in the U.K., THESE STREETS bodes well for Nutini's future work.
There was no shortage of new acoustic singer-songwriters emerging from the U.K. in the mid 2000s. However, Scottish teenager Paolo Nutini had a slightly different take on things, bearing the marked influence of Marvin Gaye and Wilson Pickett as well as some usual suspects like David Gray and Damien Rice. Nutini's debut full-length, THESE STREETS, showcased his surprisingly gritty vocals to great effect as well as the undeniably catchy and commercial aspects of his songwriting.
