product details & reviews
'Here We Stand' is the second album by Glaswegian band the Fratellis. Continuing where 2006's debut 'Costello Music' left off, the record is packed with anthemic sing-a-long indie but with a slight rock edge. Includes the single 'Mistress Mabel'.
Apr 2008
Following on the back of their million selling debut 'Costello Music', The Fratellis, are wasting no time dropping their explosive comeback album 'Here We Stand'.
The album includes current single, the storming 'Mistress Mabel', already Zane Lowe's single of the week and Jo Whiley's pet sound. Other album highlights include The Who Inspired 'A Heady Tale' a completely schizophrenic opus, recalling the theatrical urgency of 'Pinball Wizard'. The glam rock ballroom waltz of 'Acid Jazz Singer', the thunderous assault of 'Tell Me A Lie' and 'Shameless', the epic merserybeat swagger of album opener 'My Friend John' and the heartfelt sonnet 'Baby doll'. The self produced album, is bigger, bolder but retains the Fratellis trademark stamp. It's a great evolution in the career of one of the most overlooked yet loved bands in Britain today.
"If Scotland had produced The Who, we would have been called The Fratellis" - Roger Daltrey, April 2008

Fratellis = Awesome!
26 April, 2009
I rememeber buying Fratellis first album - Costello Music - I loved how it was bubbly and still a bit of rock. When I heard, on the Fratellis website, that there was going to be a new album, I got overlay excited. It first said the name 'Here We Stand' and it posted the cover on the website. At first I thought I thought the name and the cover was a bit plain, but I was for sure I would like the songs. When I got the album, I loved he name and the cover because it suited all the brilliant songs! Some rewives, like the BBC etc, say Here We Stand wasn't as good as Costello Music, but as much as I loved Costello Music, Here We Stand came a lot more top for me!
The Song ' A Heady Tale ' is a really lovely cheery songs with much piano in it, and with a lot of rock at the same time. That song, has to be my favourite on the album, and out of every single Fratellis song. Another amazing song on Here We Stand is ' Tell Me A Lie ' - This is is proper rock 'n' roll. The guitar is outstanding, as-well-as the bass and drum. I remember having the CD in the car, and my mum was listening to it also, and when the guitar solo on ' Tell Me A Lie ' came on, I remember my mother shouting 'OH MY GOD, THAT'S LED ZEPPELIN!!'. I burst out laughing and carmly said 'No mother, it's Jon Fratelli.'
Truly an outstanding album, go and buy it! I wish I posted this review earlier, as I did get the album on the day it came out. But, if you havn't got it yet, you need to buy it.
To sum this up - 'Best Album Of 2008!'

The Fratellis: 'Here We Stand'
15 February, 2009
The Fratellis are back - Hurrah! 'Here We Stand' was sadly underrated by the critics. But believe me, the second album from the Glaswegian rockers is outstanding. All songs are worth a little listen, but the gems of 'Here We Stand' are: 'My Friend John', 'Mistress Mabel', 'Look Out Sunshine', 'A Heady Tale' and 'Babydoll'. The lyrics are more sophisticated this time, and unfortunately, this album lacks the off-the-wall characteristics, heavy guitar riffs and the energy shown in 'Costello Music'. Nevertheless, I would advise everyone to buy this record.

Surpasses Costello Music by a distance - new rock'n'roll sound to tracks such as "Lupe Brown" really make this album sizzle!

Scottish trio the Fratellis (not to be confused with the evil gang in Steven Spielberg's GOONIES) seemed to emerge fully formed from the Babyshambles-inspired boho-chic scene that also spawned the Rakes and the Paddingtons. Their debut full-length, COSTELLO MUSIC, mixes the tried-and-true sounds of glam-rock, stripped-down acousticisms, and Class of '77 punk. In time-honoured punk fashion, the three band members all use the surname Fratelli.
