product details & reviews
Let It Roll is the first George Harrison anthology to contain songs from his entire career, including live recordings from his time as lead guitarist in most critically and commercially successful group of all time, The Beatles. Often considered the 'Quiet Beatle', Harrison's songwriting was frequently overshadowed by the phenomenal ability of the Lennon/McCartney partnership, and Let It Roll serves to highlight his unique and often overlooked talent.
May 2009
'Let It Roll: Songs By George Harrison' features solo hits from 1970’s 'All Things Must Pass' through to 2002’s 'Brainwashed' plus live recordings from 1971's 'Concert For Bangladesh'.
This first-ever career-spanning solo hits collection (on CD and digitally) contains 19 tracks that have been selected by Olivia Harrison and digitally remastered by Giles Martin at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios. The CD’s special packaging was designed by Olivia Harrison and includes a 28-page booklet featuring previously unseen and rare photos, and newly-written liner notes.
Featuring classic singles such as 'My Sweet Lord', 'Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)', 'Got My Mind Set On You' and 'When We Was Fab', the new title also features live recordings of three timeless Harrison-penned Beatles songs, 'Something', 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', and 'Here Comes The Sun', from his 1971 all-star Concert For Bangladesh benefit at Madison Square Garden.
The album also contains two rare recordings: 'Cheer Down' (co-written with Tom Petty) from the 'Lethal Weapon 2' soundtrack and 'I Don't Want To Do It' (written but never recorded by Bob Dylan) which featured in the lost classic, 'Porky's Revenge'.
- Spin - "Harrison forged a unique sound from quavering vocals, layered acoustic guitars, and melodic slide playing."
- Record Collector - 4 stars out of 5 -- "'Got My Mind Set On You' and 'What Is Life' are near perfect pop, there's spirituality on display in 'Give Me Love' and 'Blow Away,' and folky optimism in 'Rising Sun' and 'Any Road.'"
- Uncut - "LET IT ROLL is a proper career retrospective...and a toe in the water for anyone who... wonders just what George Harrison's music might sound like"

all of these tracks are available elsewhere compilations like this dilute the power of the original albums and are just milking the output for all its worth - which happens unfortunately too many times - loads of bands have more compilations that proper albums the smiths for instance and as for the who and far too many michael jackson ones just to cash in...

Just shows he was over shadowed by
Lennon / McCartney. Really is a collection of truly wonderful songs. In any other group he could / would have been the main writer.
