product details & reviews
Debut album from this young Manchester outfit whose amalgam of indie and electronica has already seen them compared to the legendary New Order. Snapped up by major label Polydor after hyped 12" releases on uber-hip French electro label Kitsune and revered techno imprint R&S, the band seamlessly integrate contemporary house, trance and techno elements into their catchy pop-rock sound. Produced by Ewan Pearson (Gwen Stefani, Tracy Thorn), the album includes the singles 'Doubt', 'Counterpoint' and 'This Momentary'.

Delphic are Rick and Matt Cocksedge and James Cook, young men who create their music on laptops in their Manchester flat, but when they take it to the stage it blooms into something much bigger. Matt adds guitar and James, bass and lead vocals, but all three of them also "twiddle with electronic gear", augmented by drummer Dan Hadley, who whales away at two drum pads. There are no breaks, so it drives along like a DJ set, varying between songs and hypnotic rhythmic interludes. As a live experience it has more in common with the Chemical Brothers than The Kooks so it's no surprise Tom Rowlands has become a fan. Delphic, however, are not rave revivalists. "There may be references to '90s dance music," says Rick, "but we also love Bjork, Radiohead, Kraftwerk and, at the other end of the spectrum Xenomania." "We're not really too snobbish," agrees Matt. "People take what they want from the gigs," adds James quietly, "If you're standing down the front then maybe it's more of a rave but if you're standing at the back you can chin-stroke to your heart's content."
- Alternative Press - "ACOLYTE kneads the dance-pop dough that gave rise to synth-propelled '80s mainstays like Erasure."

Almost Brilliant

I reccomend this if you like the Klaxons! Theres a lot of good tracks on this, expecially the 9 minute long Acolyte. Couple of filler tracks (Red lights & Submission) but there just a minor set back. These guys will be around for a long time!

Euphoric Dance/Rock Joy!
5 January, 2010
For a band that has been so hyped for the last year, Delphic's debut shows a maturity and dedication to their art that it's clear they intend on sticking around. These days the internet allows popularity and expectation to snowball beyond comprehension but the sheer strength of these ten songs pulls the band through. Other than the lauded singles; 'Halcyon' displays a love for unashamed chart pop, closer 'Remain' is a perfect lounge house anthem and the centrepiece 'Acolyte' is a gargantuan 9-minute journey through trance, techno and euphoria. A wonderful album.
