What can be said that hasn't been said already about this film other than it's given a new meaning to the word: Masterpiece. Marvel at the brilliance that is Christopher Nolan; the man can do no wrong.

By far one of the best movies i've ever seen, incredibly well done action, character study, storyline, dialogue, themes. Heath ledger is absolutely stunning in this movie, every scene he was in, he completely made it his own scene! A towering perfromance. Not saying this out of symphaty, because of his death, but merely out of appreciation for a performance that well and truly deserved that oscar! Anyways, all in all, an absolutely brilliant movie!

To label this merely as a comic book movie would be a great diservice to this remarkable film. Batman is back with his biggest story yet and it also happens to be his best movie yet. Christopher Nolan is to be commended for following up on his incredible Batman Begins with this masterpiece. Heath Ledger was always going to steal the show before its release but it is a role and a performance which justifies the hype. Ledger is totally unrecognisable as the crazed psychopathic clown. The Dark Knight however is filled with great performances; such as an understated Aaron Eckhart who brings confidence and tragedy to the heart of the story with Harvey Dent who crumbles under the Joker's ruthless attacks. It is however an under appreciated Christian Bale who brings personality, sympahy and emotion to a character who for so long lacked anything to speak of, this is the great legacy of Batman Begins to this film. Batman works well here alongside the villains for once and is not totally outshone by them. The Dark Knight is an intelligent movie as well as boasting some great action, its themes dealing with issues such as human nature, the nature of evil, even some relevance to the war on terror though none of it outshines the entertainment aspecy. A great piece of work and arguably the best 'comic book' movie ever made.
