UK 'baggy' band, Flowered Up, formed on a North London housing estate in 1989. Born out of the ecstasy boom that swept the musical underground at the turn of the 90s, Flowered Up were championed by the music press as a southern counterpart to the Happy Mondays. They were not, nor were they another Clash or another Madness, but their debut single "It's On"--replete with a flowing rock/funk groove--reached the Top 40 of the UK singles chart. The 13-minute single "Weekender"--with its accompanying 20-minute film--was a perfect snapshot of rave culture, and the accompanying full-length, A LIFE WITH BRIAN, showed that the band had substance behind the hype. Unfortunately it proved to be their only album, Flowered Up released one more single--"Better Life"--before splitting up in 1993.
