product details & reviews
Despite the common misconception that it is a solo act, La Roux is a band comprising Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid, and is often cited as a part of the 80s synth-pop revival. Their second single 'In For The Kill' peaked at number 2 in the UK singles chart, making them one of the most successful acts of the synth-pop movement, and their self-titled debut album is one of the most anticipated of the year. Also contains the singles 'Quicksand' and 'Bulletproof'.
May 2009
At the end of 2008 21 year old Elly Jackson, aka La Roux, arrived with a whirlwind of excitement surrounding her. Confirming all the hype - she bagged a top 5 single, the support slot on Lily Allen's national tour, has been part of the biggest remix of this year (Skream's Let's Get Ravey Remix) and has everyone from Franz Ferdinand to Daft Punk hailing her as a talent to watch. Now, the iconic redheaded Brixton girl unleashes her highly anticipated debut album.
The self-titled LP is a kaleidoscope of emotions, touching on everything from heartbreak to disappointment to invincibility – all in true spine tingling La Roux measures that create an instant resonance. With former singles 'Quicksand' and 'In For The Kill' still sounding fresh as a daisy, future single 'Bulletproof' is a stone cold smash in waiting and marks the start of the summer. Ranging from the high crystal-clean falsettos of 'Fascination' to the brooding lulls of ballad 'Cover My Eyes' (that features London Community Gospel Choir), the breadth of the album and La Roux's diversity is clear.
- Mojo (07/09 p.98) - "Their debut album is toploaded with scintillating three minute synth gems which re-imagine The Greatest Hits Of The '80s with aplomb"
Clash - "Launching into the album with 'In For The Kill' does exactly what the song title promises: kicking off an attack of irresistible tunes and arresting production"

I'd rather listen to 'Ultravox' any day!

There's a reason 80's music died long before the 80's actually finished. It was pants! The fact the 'Acid' movement stopped the genre in it's tracks about 1986-87, shows you just how poor 80's music really was. Poor little La Roux was obviously oblivious to this..... Or more than likely not even close to being a glint in the milkman's eye! This is 80's music at it's worst. I'd rather listen to 'Ultravox' any day!

Meaning "red-haired one" in French, La Roux is the critically acclaimed synth pop project of flame-haired singer/songwriter Elly Jackson and keyboardist/producer Ben Langmaid. Jackson and Langmaid began working together in 2006, when they were introduced by a mutual acquaintance. Their debut single, 2008's "Quicksand," earned the band acclaim from the BBC and the Guardian. La Roux toured with Lily Allen around the time their second single, "In for the Kill," was released in spring 2009; it reached a peak position of two. That summer's "Bulletproof" debuted at number one a week before La Roux's self-titled album was released. The album arrived in the States that fall.
