product details & reviews
'Wounded Rhymes' is the sophomore release from Swedish songstress Lykke Li. Here she casts aside the fragility and shyness of her critically acclaimed debut and moves towards a darker, commanding sound. With empowerment being a strong theme throughout the album, single 'Get Some' encompasses this in its tribal nature and cult themed video. Produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn & John, Li's otherworldly voice and presence is enhanced through the use of Hammond organs and inventive harmonies.

Stockholm's Lykke Li releases her highly-anticipated second album, 'Wounded Rhymes'. Produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn & John and recorded in Stockholm, Wounded Rhymes is the follow up to Lykke's critically-acclaimed debut, 'Youth Novels.'
As one of 2008's most talked-about albums, 'Youth Novels' - a postmodern pop masterpiece combining elements of folk music, hip hop, singer/songwriter confessionals and more - established Lykke Li Zachrisson as a true innovator of melody and style.
'Wounded Rhymes', is one of the most tremendous records you will hear in 2011. Channeling the demise of The Shangri-La's Leader of the Pack, women under the influence, ladies and gentlemen of the canyon, a Kung-fu Marianne Faithful, and an armed Nancy Sinatra on peyote, Lykke Li has created a ten song album that sounds like no other. The record is packed full of pounding, voodoo drums, girl group gang vocals, sparkling guitar lines, woozy keyboards, love unrequited, hope reignited and her own very powerful voice, sounding bigger and bolder than ever before.
- Rolling Stone - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[H]er guiding spirit seems to be Phil Spector, and she laces the music with booming percussion and girl-group-style romantic melodrama."
- Spin - "'Unrequited Love,' a sort of Spector-ish torch song, with its lightly strummed guitar and girl-group shoowop-shoowas, is one of the year's saddest, prettiest moments."
- Entertainment Weekly - "WOUNDED is hungry, dark, dirty....It's futile to deny her." -- Grade: A
- Billboard - "Sonically it's a super-charged take on the girl-group sound, with thundering drums, multilayered vocals, heart-wrenching lyrics and loads of echo..."
- Spin - Ranked #10 in Spin's 'The Top 40 Albums Of 2011' -- "On tribal stompers, groovy psychedelic tunes, and Wall of Sound symphonies zooted on Ambien, she plays soothsayer, temptress, and Ronette."
