product details & reviews
Jul 2009
'Ellipse' is Imogen Heap's most accomplished album to date and after the leaps she made on the release of her last breakthrough album 'Speak For Yourself', Imogen has remained true to her do-it-yourself ethos, building her own studio in the old family home in Essex, where she's almost finished making the new album.
"The new album showcases all of Imogen's remarkable talents: vocals, lyrics, composition and programming. 'Ellipse' runs the gamut of tone and style, mingling upbeat and energizing tracks with ones that are hypnotic and spellbinding. Her signature swirling vocals run powerfully through the downtempo set, with surprising twists and turns." - Access Hollywood
- Spin (p.89) - "Her third solo album adds teaspoons of ice and melancholy to an otherwise comforting brew, then melts them away, recalling the Postal Service's mix of the human and machinelike..."
The Guardian - "An understated vocalist, Heap sounds by turns warm and inviting and mistily detached...Lovely stuff"
Billboard - "The opening track/lead single, 'First Train Home,' is her best shot yet at radio, with a dewy Dido electro-sheen but with more literate lyrics."

Getting the same Train...
6 August, 2009
Imogen has been in the forefront of my music collection since her break from Frou Frou. Her new single First Train Home is already in thriple figures on my playlist count. To be completely honest and not entirely complimentary, I wouldn't classify Imogen's music as easy-listening. Although tracks like Canvas show a more diluted version of her. Despite this fact however, I find everything to be addictive eventually. Its easy to find a situation in your life that matches the lyrics to her songs, Imogen is clearly a little left of centre and I love it!

Personnel: Imogen Heap (vocals, programming).
Recording information: The Hideaway.
Imogen Heap's vibrant music meshes intimate singer-songwriterly lyrics with stylish electronic dance beats. Although relatively unprolific, releasing only two solo albums and one collaborative effort (as the duo Frou Frou) within 10 years, the British singer has managed to quietly infiltrate pop culture through several well-placed soundtrack cuts released in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Her poignant techno-ballad "Hide and Seek," with its haunting use of vocoder, appeared as dramatic background music in several films and TV shows, and her music has appeared on numerous soundtracks. The popularity of her 2006 Grammy-nominated album, SPEAK FOR YOURSELF, inspired the re-release of her 1998 debut, garnering even more fans in the process.
