Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you Canadian pop-experimentalist Mav Karlo...

Who Is He?

Mav Karlo is Canadian musician Menno Versteeg. Versteeg is the frontman of indie types Hollerado and one of the founders of label Royal Mountain Records, but Mav Karlo is his solo project.

His debut album, Strangers Like Us, arrives in October. It features production from Beach House and Yeah Yeah Yeahs knob-twiddler Chris Coady and backing vocals from Katy Goodman of Vivian Girls.

What Does He Sound Like?

This is whimsical indie-pop with bleepy electronics and sweeping melodies. You can hear the tenderness of The Moldy Peaches, the wackiness of Beck and the slacker chops of Weezer all in the mix.

Why Should I Be Excited?

Versteeg's gift for melody is phenomenal, we can't wait to see him deliver it on a full-length record.

Can I Hear Something?

Absolutely. His new jam 'Dig A Hole' is below for you:
