As businessman Jeffrey Cage (Sheen) enters an elevator with his estranged wife Eve (Gina Gershon) a large vibration stalls their movement and they become trapped along with three other people, Michael (Wood Harris), Tina (Olga Fonda) and janitor Eddie (Luis Guzman). As they make contact with operator Metzie (Goldberg) they learn that the building is under attack and that their lives are at risk.
