hmv.com talks to Blossoms

We sat down with Blossoms to put some of your burning fan questions to the band, and their answers didn’t disappoint! From dream concerts to stolen gorillas, we got an inside look at the inspirations behind their new album Gary, their dream collaborations, and some fun tidbits you might not expect. Here’s what Blossoms had to say when we handed over the mic to their fans!

“If you could have gone to any concert in the past, which would you choose?” (From James)

Joe: ‘I reckon the Isle of Wight as a festival…’

Tom: ‘I would say Beatles at Shea Stadium. Just for the occasion and the magnitude’

Charlie: ‘The doors at the Hollywood Bowl would be another good one!’

Joe: ‘Or you could say the Beatles at the cavern…just any Beatles gig really’

All: ‘Let's agree on Beatles at Shea Stadium!’

“If you could tour with any band you like worldwide, who would it be?” (From Donna)

Tom: ‘Hm you know what, it’s someone you’d want to watch every night… so maybe Khruangbin?’

Josh: ‘I rate that’

Myles: ‘Or sweat tour… Charli XCX’

All: ‘Ohhh, yeah. Charli XCX for sure!’

“What inspired you to make the band?” (From Daisy)

Joe: ‘Boredom.’

Tom: ‘Yeah, part boredom, part yearning to be in a band and make music. And finding like-minded people to do it with I suppose. We’ve all been in other bands and it never really worked out, whereas we five are on the same page. We wanted to go in the same direction. Like Joe said… there wasn’t much to do in Stockport so it was something to do.’

“Of course, CMAT was on the new album, are there any other dream artists you’d love to collaborate with in the future?” (From Callum)

Joe: You know what I’ve always thought is writing with Declan McKenna would be good.

Tom: Yeah he would!

Joe: Hm, y'know I don’t see a ceiling for it.

Tom: Yeah, it should happen naturally. We met Ciara (CMAT) naturally and that’s how it should work.

Joe: I just think that the collaborations should be open, rule nothing out. That’s what gets the best results.

Charlie: I know we worked with Jungle on this album but it would be cool to actually collaborate with Jungle.

“What was your favourite song to record from Gary?” (From Amber)

Tom: Probably I like your look!

All: Yeah!

Tom: We, like, partly recorded it in an Airbnb in Wales, with CMAT, and wrote it in one night and recorded it the day after. A lot of the demo was carried over to the actual song. So I’d say that one.

Joe: We’re usually quite professional in the studio actually, but that night we more so just got together. It was very free, you know?

Myles: There were some original features that happened, and they were unique because we messed around with them and let them happen, you know?

“Who is Gary?” (From Kasey)

Tom: Gary is an eight-foot-tall, fabulous gorilla that was stolen from a garden centre in Scotland.

“What made you choose Gary the Gorilla?” (From Maddie)

Tom: I don't know,I just heard it on the radio. I actually think if he wasn’t called Gary I wouldn’t have written the song with him… It’s the name that made it. If they just said a gorilla has been stolen I don’t think it would’ve pricked my ears as much as ‘Gary’ did.

Joe: He stole our hearts didn’t he?

Tom: Yeah, it was a bit of a laugh, I suppose.

“Was Gary ever found or are you still on the hunt for him?” (From Lola)

Joe: Gary still hasn’t been found!

Tom: Half of him was found in a ditch on the motorway near Scotland…

Myles: That’s a bit dark actually…

Joe: Only half! The back half

Tom: So the other front half of him is still to be found. Our eyes are peeled.

Joe: We do own our own Gary though!

“Any other heists on the agenda next..?” (From Adam)

Tom: Hm…

Josh: There is a giraffe actually…

Tom: Yeah a massive giraffe would be pretty good!

Charlie: That’s a six-foot-one thought isn’t it? Hm.

Joe: We will have to see…

As we wrap up our chat with Blossoms, it’s hard not to feel the excitement surrounding their latest album, Gary. This record feels like a perfect evolution—full of those infectious melodies we love, but with a fresh twist that shows just how far the band has come. It’s a mix of fun, introspective, and downright catchy tunes that are bound to stick with you.

Blossoms continue to push boundaries while staying true to what makes their music so relatable and fun. If you haven’t already, give Gary a listen—you’re in for a treat!
