Who is Charli xcx?

Charli xcx – born Charlotte Emma Aitchison on August 2 1992 – is the UK's reigning pop queen from Cambridge in the UK. She's famed for her fearless experimentation and for flipping electro‑pop on its head with a club‑kid attitude. She started as a MySpace teenager sneaking into London warehouse parties, then levelled up into a boundary-pushing songwriter and star.

Before the world fully caught up, she was already shaping pop from the sidelines, penning and featuring on Icona Pop's 'I Love It', then charging into the mainstream with her own hits like 'Boom Clap' and a feature on the Iggy Azalea smash 'Fancy' while continuing to build her own avant‑pop universe. In 2024, Charli xcx hit a new peak with the Brat album, a culture-eating, chart-storming monster that cemented her as one of pop's boldest innovators. Smashing milestone after milestone, including bagging Grammy and Brit awards and performing at Glastonbury in 2025, Charli's energy and creative vision are like no other.

Charli xcx albums

  • True Romance (2013): The debut album, featuring songs like 'You (Ha Ha Ha)' and 'Nuclear Seasons', which Charli introduced by saying "it explores every corner of my romantic history". It's named after the Quentin Tarantino movie, hinting at the in-your-face attitude she's cultivated over her career.
  • Sucker (2014): Introducing the iconic electro-pop sound Charli is known for now, this album brought us UK pop classics like 'Break the Rules' and 'Boom Clap'. It really put Charli on the map and into the charts.
  • Charli (2019): Strap yourself in for a hyperpop joyride, smashing together avant‑pop and electronic vibes with a surprising depth that'll give you all the feels. '1999,' 'Blame It on Your Love' and 'Gone' are tracks you absolutely cannot skip, no matter how many times you've listened.
  • How I'm Feeling Now (2020): Some of us binge-watched our favourite series in lockdown, but not Charli xcx – she made this album. No biggie. This release gave us "Party 4 U", which has become a fan favourite. Recently, listeners rediscovered the song, causing it to go viral on TikTok five years after its release. Charli jumped on the hype too by releasing an official video for it in 2025.
  • Crash (2022): We're in full pop‑superstar mode now with a slick and gloriously dramatic sound. With bangers like 'Good Ones' and 'Beg For You,' it's the kind of album that swerves between heartbreak and hedonism while looking fabulous doing it.
  • Brat (2024): This is the album that truly sent Charli xcx into the stratosphere. Resonating with listeners in a way the industry hasn't seen often – whether from its bold, party attitude or its sense of female empowerment – Brat became a lifestyle and something to embody. Earning three Grammy Awards collectively, Brat dominated the charts with hits like 'Von Dutch' and '360'.
  • BRAT and It's the Same But There's Three More Songs So It's Not (2024): Released just three days after the original, this expanded version of Brat has the same feral, hyperpop energy but with extra chaos courtesy of the new tracks 'Hello Goodbye,' 'Guess' and 'Spring Breakers.'
  • Brat and It's Completely Different But Also Still Brat (2024): Charli goes full mad‑scientist on her own Brat universe, turning every track into a fun club remix. With a wild roster of collaborators like Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Lorde and Troye Sivan, it's a victory lap that feels like Brat's louder and way more unhinged twin.
  • Wuthering Heights (2026): Charli xcx is the voice of the new film adaptation of Emily Brontë's ultimate tale of yearning. Fans can expect a raw and gothic sound from her soundtrack album, which hits this February.

The sound of the 2026 Wuthering Heights film

Charli xcx is stepping straight into gothic vibes with Wuthering Heights, her fiercely dramatic soundtrack album created for Emerald Fennell's 2026 film adaptation of Emily Brontë's classic novel. This record sees Charli ditch Brat green for something wild and deliciously Victorian‑coded.

Crafted throughout 2025 while she was still on the Brat tour, the album leans into a darker, more elegant and brutal soundscape. Tracks like 'House', featuring John Cale, and 'Chains of Love' set the tone, while the full 12-song lineup mirrors the movie's themes of obsession and total romantic devastation.
