Gender Pay Gap Report 2021-22

Sunrise Records and Entertainment Limited – Gender Pay Gap Report 2021-22

Sunrise Records and Entertainment Limited recorded its snapshot pay data as at 5 April 2021 and the results are outlined below. It is important to note that on the snapshot date of 5 April 2021, as non-essential retailers, our stores were closed and therefore 91% of our employees were in receipt of furlough pay which was not topped up to full pay. The gender pay gap regulations stipulates that furloughed employees whose salaries were not topped up to full pay, and so were on temporary leave and being paid at a reduced rate, should be excluded from the hourly pay calculations. In removing this significant percentage of employees from the gender pay gap reporting, this results in a distorted gender pay gap differential as reporting is focused on a small group of employees based in distribution and head office. We have therefore provided additional information in this report to indicate what the actual differentials would have been (% in brackets), had we been able to include all our employees in the reporting.

Mean Gender Pay Gap

The company has recorded a mean gender pay gap of 11.17% (*7.87%) based on fixed hourly rates for all full pay relevant colleagues, this equates to 9% of the workforce not on furlough pay. The mean gender pay gap is primarily driven by:

  • As 91% of our workforce could not be included, the pay gap of 11.17% is therefore a reflection of the small number of employees in head office and in our distribution centre who were on full pay at the snapshot date
  • 67% of full pay employees on the snapshot date included in this calculation were male and 33% female
  • On the snapshot date 50% of the leadership team not on furlough were female, with 50% male
  • In the 12 months leading up to the snapshot date of 5 April 2021 58% of new recruits were female and 42% male

Median Gender Pay Gap

The median gender pay gap for hourly fixed pay is -0.94% (*3.14) as at 5 April 2021 for those colleagues on full pay at the snapshot date.

Proportion of males and females receiving a bonus payment

Please note that there were no bonus payments or long servce payments during this period.

Bonus Gender Pay Gap

The company did not pay any bonuses in the period and therefore the gender bonus gap is zero.

Pay Quartiles

The table below illustrates the gender distribution across each quartile for the 9% of colleagues on full pay at the snapshot date, with each quartile holding 23 colleagues.

  Male Female
Lower quartile 63.6% (*70.5%) 36.4% (*29.5%)
Lower middle quartile 69.6% (*67.8%) 30.4% (*32.2%)
Upper middle quartile 56.5% (*67.3%) 43.5% (*32.7%)
Upper quartile 78.3% (*75.0%) 21.7% (*25.0%)

*Please note that the percentages in brackets in this report indicates the actual differential if our full workforce had been included in the reporting.

We acknowledge there is a gender imbalance in our staff profile some of which is historic. We confirm that the data reported is a true reflection of the gender differences in our mean and median hourly rate, bonus (long service) rate and pay quartiles in relation to the data held as at 5 April 2021.
