This statement sets out the steps that Sunrise Records and Entertainment Limited (‘Sunrise’) shall take to ensure that modern slavery or human trafficking is not taking place within our business or supply chains.
Sunrise is an established retailer which focuses on the sales of music compact discs and vinyl, visual digital versatile discs and blu-ray discs, computer and console games, technology, books and other entertainment products and has strong brand recognition and presence in ‘hmv’ and ‘fopp’ branded retail stores and online through hmv.com, store.hmv.com and fopp.com.
Sunrise is committed to ensuring that its business dealings are carried out in compliance with the relevant laws and, in doing so, Sunrise endorses the implementation and promotion of ethical business practices to protect workers from being abused and exploited.
Modern slavery is a crime and a gross violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.
Sunrise shall have a zero‐tolerance approach to modern slavery and are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and control to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our own business or in any of our supply chains.
We are committed to providing a working environment that is open, inclusive, supportive and that is based on mutual respect and trust and where everyone feels valued regardless of age, sex, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marital or civil partnership status.
We have robust internal policies and processes in place to uphold and protect the rights and working conditions of our staff and to help ensure that all employees are safe.
We have internal policies available for staff to review and this includes a Whistleblowing Policy that staff can follow to report any matters that concern them.
Our supply chains comprise suppliers that provide goods for us to sell to our customers in our retail stores and on our website and suppliers that provide goods that we as a business use internally and are not for sale. We also engage suppliers that provide services to our business, for example IT providers, insurance, and courier services. The agreements we have with our suppliers are in writing and are fair and balanced
Sunrise are committed to ensuring there is transparency in our own business and in our approach to tackling modern slavery throughout our supply chains, consistent with our obligations in the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We shall expect the same high standards from all our suppliers, contractors, and other business partners.
We shall ensure that all new suppliers and suppliers we re-engage with have a Modern Slavery Policy (where required by law) and that we have reviewed the policy to ensure that the policy is up-to-date and meets at the very minimum, the basic requirements.
We shall encourage the suppliers that we purchase goods that we sell to our customers to follow the internationally recognised ETI Base Code. Where we supply contracts to our suppliers, we shall ensure that the contracts contain a section on Ethical Trading and Modern Slavery and that the supplier confirms that the goods they supply or source on our behalf have been manufactured in factories that meet or exceed the Minimum Ethical Standards of the ETI Base Code.
Our buyers shall be required to read the ETI Base Code and familiarise themselves with the content on at least an annual basis.
Our buyers shall request that suppliers they engage with provide details of their Modern Slavery Policy. They shall also promptly highlight to the legal department of Sunrise any concerns they have with suppliers relating to modern slavery, bribery, and corruption.
The financial year of Sunrise is April of each year to March of the following year.
This Modern Slavery Statement has been approved by the Board of Sunrise Records and Entertainment Limited. It is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending 2020.
