After the death of their young daughter, dollmaker Samuel Mullins (Anthony LaPaglia) and his wife Esther (Miranda Otto) invite a group of six girls and nun Sister Charlotte (Stephanie Sigman) to stay in their farmhouse after their orphanage is closed down. However, it soon transpires that the couple did this to atone for inadvertently inviting a demon into their home after mistaking it for the spirit of their daughter Annabelle. Now occupying one of Samuel's dolls, the spirit proceeds to terrorise the girls as it tries to claim their souls.
