British war drama co-directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger based on the actual methods employed by Dutch citizens who smuggled stranded Allied airmen back to England. When six British airmen are stranded in a wooded area in Holland they are discovered by Dutch children and brought to a farm where their potential saviours grill them for hours before offering to help. After enduring many narrow escapes from the advancing Germany army, the airmen eventually reach a sea-port but are still faced with dangerous circumstances as they attempt the crossing for home.
