Plan 9 from Outer Space

Released: 19th October 2026. Despite being voted ‘the worst film ever made’, Edward D Wood Jr’s micro-budget 1950s science fiction epic continues to delight its fans and confound its critics. Inimitably written and directed by indefatigable independent filmmaker Wood, this self-proclaimed masterpiece tells the strange tale of alien invaders piloting flimsy flying saucers on a muddled-up mission to resurrect earth’s dead. Opportunistically juxtaposing pre existing footage of a recently deceased Bela (Dracula) Lugosi with new scenes featuring Wood’s friends, business associates, Hollywood has-beens and hangers-on, amidst a claustrophobic cemetery-set crammed with cardboard tombstones, Plan 9 occupies a unique cinematic space. It’s a dream-realm where ineptitude and inspiration collide; where conventional criticism – as well as time, space and  logic – no longer rule supreme. Can you prove it didn’t happen? Also included is Bride of the Monster, finally making its worldwide Blu ray debut. Lovingly written by Wood for his idol, Lugosi, it immortalises the master of screen menace – who usefully remained alive throughout production – in his last great performance. As haunted, homeless genius Dr Eric Vornoff, he’s hell-bent on an ungodly mission to create atomic superbeings, whilst feeding anybody who gets in the way to his rather rubbery giant octopus.
