Set in 1983, the film follows young couple Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp (Woodley and Claflin) as they set sail for California after meeting on the island of Tahiti. However, their romantic odyssey soon turns into a disaster when they sail straight into a hurricane. Tami wakes up from the traumatic night to find their luxury yacht ruined and Richard has disappeared. When she eventually finds him badly injured, Tami desperately tries to keep him alive and their yacht afloat long enough to reach safety.
