Director Woody Allen's tale stars Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell as the brothers, Ian and Terry Blaine, both eager to move on from their cash-strapped existence to brighter and better things. Ian (McGregor) helps run the family restaurant business, but dreams of finding the right opportunity to spread his wings, while Terry (Farrell), unable to make enough as a mechanic, supplements his income by gambling whenever he gets the opportunity. While Ian's life takes an upturn when he meets actress Angela Stark (Hayley Atwell), Terry's goes into freefall when he loses 90,000 pounds to a loan shark, who promises serious injury on default. When the boys' uncle Howard (Tom Wilkinson) turns up, offering a chance to clear Terry's debt in return for making an old business partner 'disappear', the brothers are suddenly faced with a major moral dilemma.
