In the series 'Please Sir!' John Alderton stars as Bernard Hedges, teacher of the wayward class 5C at Fenn Street School. Hedges has the unenviable job of trying to teach the unruly class while also dealing with nosey caretaker Norman Potter (Deryck Guyler) who challenges his every move with rules and regulations and student Maureen Bullock (Liz Gebhart) who nurses a huge crush on him. In the spin-off series 'Bowler' George Baker stars as a London criminal with a desire to climb the social ladder. Stanley Bowler (Baker) was born and bred in the East End and makes a good living from his involvement in underhand enterprises. However, whether attempting to set himself up as a laird or opening his own gentlemen's club, his ventures into society are never quite so successful.
