A punk girl at a gas station tells Harold that if you believe cancer can be stopped, Harold impulsively sets out to save Queenie, leading to a pilgrimage on which he becomes a temporary media star and people join him. Arriving 64 days later, he realizes that no faith can beat cancer, and he reunites in love with Maureen, who had despised him since her son's suicide twenty years ago, something that Harold keeps thinking about along the way .
