Future Sound Of London / Lifeforms on 1921 Edition green vinyl

Vinyl re-issue of the 1994 double album by The Future Sound of London. After having a dancefloor smash like the seminal "Papua New Guinea", most producers would swiftly follow up with more of the same. Not The Future Sound of London. After their early ’90s club classic kicked open the doors of the dance music industry, they quickly shot inside, boarded them up, and began creating a new strain of electronic music a world away from the friendly grooves of their standout hit. "Lifeforms" was, and still is, a complicated and rewarding journey into sound, with no interest in anything as obvious as a verse/chorus arrangement. Still, it rose to number six in the UK album charts on release. "Lifeforms" concentrates on Future Sound of London’s painstaking construction of tiny, crystalline arrangements of organic sound. Guest stars include Curve’s Toni Halliday, percussionist Talvin Singh, and guitar pioneer Robert Fripp, but you’ll be hard-pressed to identify their individual contributions once they’ve been diced and folded into the mix.

Critically acclaimed, it picked up from where they’d left off with lead single ‘Vote For Me’ summing up the times perfectly. A new version of ‘The Lunatics’, a track that had played a part in the 1981 split, seemed even more relevant. The album would debut at No.1 and they would then embark on a year of touring the UK, Europe, and the USA. Celebrating its 5th anniversary, this edition comes in gold coloured vinyl and is limited to just 2000 copies.

Yusuf / Cat Stevens / Tea for the Tillerman on 1921 Edition mint green vinyl

"Tea for the Tillerman" is arguably Cat Stevens’ best known and most cherished album. Originally released in November 1970, the album was Cat’s second LP of the year. Building on the sound that had been so well received on "Mona Bone Jakon", "TFTT" saw Cat reunite with producer and former Yardbird Paul Samwell-Smith, as well as with guitarist Alun Davies, to bring us some of his most loved songs. “Where Do The Children Play?”, “Wild World”, and “Father And Son” continue to resonate more than 50 years later, and for good reason thanks to their subject matter, heartfelt lyrics, and timeless melodies. Again produced by former Yardbird Paul Samwell-Smith, Cat’s third LP on Island Records (indeed, his third in 18 months) built on the extreme success of "Tea for the Tillerman", and yielded some of his greatest songs including “The Wind”, “Moonshadow”, “Peace Train”, and “Morning Has Broken”. Presented here using the 2020 Remastered audio on 180 gram neon orange vinyl for the very first time, "Teaser and the Firecat" continues to hold a hallowed place in the pantheon of music for good reason.

Yusuf / Cat Stevens / Mona Bone Jakon on 1921 Edition blue vinyl

Following the 1967 Decca releases of "Matthew & Son" and "New Masters", Cat Stevens became a bona fide pop star. However, stardom and a year recovering from TB gave him pause and time to reflect. Emerging from his recuperation with a new deal with Chris Blackwell’s Island Records, 1970 saw the release of "Mona Bone Jakon", and with it came a new sound which would forge the Cat Stevens sound we know and love today. Produced by Paul Samwell-Smith (formerly of The Yardbirds), the album featured the single “Lady D’Arbanville” as well as the fan favourites “Trouble”, “I Wish, I Wish” and “Maybe You’re Right”. The track “Katmandu” also featured Peter Gabriel on flute. 50 years on, the songs on "Mona Bone Jakon" still sound as fresh as the day they were recorded, and are presented here using the 2020 Remastered audio on 180 gram sky blue vinyl for the very first time.
